Shattered Dreams: No Mention Of Crypto By Trump!
The inauguration of the 47th President of the United States of America came and went with President Donald Trump not making a single mention of crypto. We talked about the implications of this and how people would be disappointed. And that's exactly what happened as prices came tumbling down!
Yes, there were no crypto executive orders signed, including the Bitcoin strategic reserve one that everybody was expecting, though he did sign a significant amount of other executive orders for various different matters, which are probably more important than crypto, just as we assumed.
That's not to say that a Bitcoin strategic reserve executive order might not come today. There were hints of crypto here and there, like, for example, Elon Musk's mention that Ross Ulbricht, the Silk Road creator, might be pardoned by Trump.
Ross Ulbricht was arrested in 2013 by the FBI on charges including narcotics trafficking and money laundering. The Bitcoin seized from Ulbricht and Silk Road operations is the Bitcoin the market feared the U.S. would sell off—the Bitcoin we have mentioned multiple times. Donald Trump, during his campaign, pledged to commute Ulbricht's sentence, which is set at double life imprisonment plus 40 years.
As of now, there's no confirmed action on Trump's promise to pardon Ulbricht, but anticipation for a potential commutation remains high.
Then we had Elon Musk making his speech, saying they are taking DOGE to Mars. Although he is likely referencing the Department of Government Efficiency (D.O.G.E.), we all know he knows what Dogecoin (DOGE) supporters want to hear. Now, the D.O.G.E. website is up and running and guess what it has as a logo…
Though I suspect sarcasm from Fred below, many people actually believe what Fred is saying here.
But on the other hand, let's not forget that not everything can be taken literally and not everything can be done in one day, and that's where CZ’s post comes in.
One last thing that the market didn't like was the fact that MicroStrategy did not buy any Bitcoin during last week—something it’s been doing nearly every week. However, it is holding a meeting today to talk about increasing authorized shares to support its Bitcoin purchasing strategy, so maybe it will buy double this week?
We’ll find out later in the week!
But, overall, things still look healthy.
